There would be no coming back from this. The wipeout hadn’t hurt his body, but his pride would never recover. Seriously, how many times had he done that spinning thing on his back wheels without messing it up? Hundreds of times. So how hard was it to show off in front of the new girl as she came walking home from wherever?
Too hard, apparently. The jeers of his friends still rang in his ears as he stared at the pavement, wishing to God that it would open up and swallow him. And when he finally had the courage to look up, she was standing right there!
“Are you OK?” she asked. The concern in her eyes was real. Although he doubted that that he would ever be OK, the sudden strange joy he felt made life worth living again.
(The horrors of being a kid in the late '70s. I'm sort of pleased with this, not because I think it's a masterpiece, but because I was able to draw and upload it 650 miles from home)
A great presentation of late 70s nostalgia for sure,my good sir! This scene is more than good in every means ,nicely drawn figures, convincing, natural poses and facial expression, and the mood it conveys!
And this scene has one special meaning for me; I always have a soft spot one for skateboarding/rollerskate girls and this reminds me of the most beautiful and wonderful one I had ever known.
